Tại lễ kỷ niệm 25 năm thành lập Công đoàn Dệt May Việt Nam mới đây, Uỷ viên Trung ương Đảng, Chủ tịch Tổng Liên đoàn Lao động Việt Nam Nguyễn Đình Khang bày tỏ mong muốn trong thời gian tới, sẽ có nhiều hơn nữa các doanh nghiệp dệt may được tôn vinh vì người lao động; kỳ vọng hơn nữa là cộng đồng sẽ nhìn nhận về ngành Dệt May Việt Nam không chỉ là ngành đông lao động, mà là một ngành có chất lượng lao động cao và việc làm, đời sống tốt.
Chủ tịch Tổng Liên đoàn Lao động Việt Nam nhấn mạnh đây là một yếu tố rất nhân văn, thể hiện sự trân trọng và quan tâm của các cấp bộ Đảng, các cấp chính quyền và Công đoàn trong ngành đối với chủ thể của toàn bộ quá trình sản xuất kinh doanh – đó là người lao động.
Là người lao động của một trong những ngành công nghiệp đầu tiên của đất nước, đội ngũ công nhân lao động ngành dệt may đã trưởng thành lên từ phong trào đấu tranh cách mạng và trở thành lực lượng đông đảo, mạnh mẽ trong công cuộc bảo vệ, xây dựng và phát triển đất nước. Từ sự cần cù, khéo léo của những người thợ, cùng với sự đầu tư về công nghệ kĩ thuật và những chiến lược phát triển đúng đắn, trong những năm qua, ngành dệt may Việt Nam đã thu được nhiều kết quả đáng khích lệ, đứng trong tốp 3 quốc gia xuất khẩu hàng dệt may lớn nhất thế giới với kim ngạch xuất khẩu tới trên 40 tỉ USD/năm.
Nhưng cuộc cách mạng công nghiệp lần thứ tư cũng đang đặt ra nhiều thách thức. Hiện ngành Dệt May Việt Nam có 125 ngàn đoàn viên, người lao động.
