Trong đó, hàng may mặc đạt 28,9 tỷ USD, tăng 4% so với năm 2020; xơ, sợi dự kiến đạt 5,5 tỷ, tăng trên 49% (chủ yếu xuất khẩu sang Trung Quốc).
Theo Hiệp hội Dệt may Việt Nam, Dự thảo Chiến lược phát triển ngành dệt maygiai đoạn 2021- 2030, tầm nhìn đến năm 2035 phải định hướng thúc đẩy đầu tư sản xuất nguyên, phụ liệu ngành dệt may đáp ứng yêu cầu về quy tắc xuất xứ của các Hiệp định thương mại tự do (FTA) thế hệ mới, cũng như đẩy mạnh quá trình nội địa hóa; đẩy mạnh chuyển từ gia công sản xuất sang các hình thức đòi hỏi năng lực cao hơn về quản lý chuỗi cung ứng, chuỗi giá trị, thiết kế và xây dựng thương hiệu.
Bên cạnh đó, dệt may cũng là một trong những ngành được hưởng lợi nhiều từ các FTA thế hệ mới. Tuy nhiên, để được hưởng những lợi ích mà các FTA mang lại, ngành dệt may trong nước phải đáp ứng được các quy tắc ứng xử. Ở tầm chiến lược quốc gia, chúng ta phải có giải pháp đầu tư vào phần cung thiếu hụt của các ngành công nghiệp dệt may, da giày để tận dụng lợi ích từ dòng thuế đó.
Để xây dựng chiến lược phát triển ngành dệt maygiai đoạn 2021- 2030, tầm nhìn đến năm 2035 cần chú trọng giải quyết vấn như: xây dựng một số khu công nghiệp ngành dệt may đồng bộ bao gồm chuỗi sợi- dệt- nhuộm, hoàn tất vải- may mặc, hình thành chuỗi giá trị và cung ứng hoàn chỉnh giữa sản xuất sợi, vải, may và sản xuất nguyên, phụ liệu; ưu tiên dự án sử dụng công nghệ hiện có tốt nhất, có quy trình sản xuất đồng bộ, đáp ứng các yêu cầu về sản xuất dệt may bền vững, tuần hoàn.
